Furlesque

Nancy Hawkins desperately wants to be part of the show, but her uncle won’t let her. Why is he squashing her dreams? Why won’t he let her dance? Is that a real bear roaming around the stage? Furlesque answers these questions, and creates quite a few more, in this coming of age story set inside a burlesque club for furries!

Original Production’s Writer/Director Note

The idea for Furlesque was born several years ago during some down time at the Indianapolis Fringe Festival. Amongst, those who witnessed the birth of this idea was Lauren Carr and Mike Hall. I wanted to recognize them both specifically for continually being by my side helping and pushing this idea into reality.

Furlesque, like most shows, has gone through several different visions and re-writes before it materialized on stage at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. One of the biggest changes to the script came in the last few months while investigating the furry community. It is a common misconception that this community is solely interested in one thing: sex. Although, there is a slice of the community in which this is their motivation, it does not represent the whole of the community. Considering this we made changes to the script as a whole to align it more with the furry community as a whole.
